GRIHA is a green building rating system for the construction of residential and commercial buildings. Builder adopting this system will be given incentives in the form of tax rebates and preference in the allocation of land.
Under the new building rating system, a building can get between 1 star and 5 star. Qualifying mark to apply for a green rating is 50, with a score of 50-61 points equivalent to 1 star. For every additional 10 points a building gets, its rating increases by 1. So a building with 81 to 90 points will get 4 stars. Though a house in a green building will be 10-20% more than a standard home, the savings in the long term could be significant.
A building is assigned points on 32 parameters, which can be classified into the following 6 groups: 1. Reduction in energy consumption by utilizing natural lighting, shade 2. Environment : Better site planning can be used to reduce soil loss and destruction of natural habitats / biodiversity. 3. Water consumption is reduced by recycling/ reuse of water and water harvesting 4. Carbon emissions into the air should be reduced 5. Using eco friendly material like flyash bricks 6. It should be customized as per end user needs. |
