Solar Passive Housing (SPH) technology has been adopted in many temperate regions worldwide. It helps in energy conservation by reducing the electricity needed in both summer and winter and is also environment friendly.

Buildings constructed using SPH technology are designed so that the climatic conditions and position of  the sun in  both summer and winter are considered while creating comfortable living conditions in the building, so that no external sources of  energy are needed.  The local  energy conservation department provides basic technical guidelines for construction .

The optimum thickness of  the cavity walls, local insulation material, air flow and leakage control are specified so that direct solar light through the windows can be used for illumination, heating and for home appliances. Training in all aspects is provided to architects, scientists, engineers, planners and masons. Since the government usually provides the incentives for using green building practices, government departments are the usually the first adopters of  this technology .
